How to Get Licensed and Selling in 30 Days

Choose Your Pre-Licensing Course

Select an approved pre-licensing course for your state. Online options are available and typically cost $100-$200. Life & Health licensing requires approximately 20-40 hours of study depending on your state.

Pass Your State Licensing Exam

Schedule and pass your state's Life & Health insurance licensing exam. Most states use Pearson VUE or PSI for testing. Pass rates for prepared candidates are typically 60-70%.

Apply for Your State License

Submit your license application through your state's Department of Insurance. Background check required. Processing time varies by state (typically 1-4 weeks).

Complete AHIP Certification

If you plan to sell Medicare Advantage, complete the annual AHIP certification online (about 4-6 hours, $175). This is required by CMS for all Medicare Advantage agents.
